The optimal device for ambulatory cardiac monitoring with ECG is based on the frequency of symptoms. Historically, a 24- 48 hour Holter monitor was used. However, if symptoms are infrequent, the Holter would not be sensitive enough (or timely enough) to pick up arrhythmias. In fact, in a recent study the median time to the first triggered arrhythmia was 3 to 4 days, outside the window of traditional Holter monitoring.
The ZIO® XT Patch, a continuously recording, wire-free, heart monitor that can be worn for up to 14 days, provides high diagnostic yield, prolonged monitoring, high compliance, and excellent data quality.
